I am on a blogging ROLL lately! Damn! Today we are going back to April to visit a shoot with the lovely Britni McIntosh! You may have noticed, I am still digging through my older shoots that need to be blogged, and I am doing so in no particular order. I hope you like this trip down memory lane that I’ve been doing. I swear I will catch up one of these days….
Britni is the sweetest little thing. I have known her for ages. We grew up in the same crowd of friends and now we are all old and still friends. Woohoo! Britni was actually one of my very first guinea pigs EVER when I got my first camera (Nikon D60) a few years ago. While Britni kicked ass on that shoot, looking at my old work kind of burns my eyes out. I’m making these really small so no one can actually see them.
HAHAHA. If it gives you any indication of how old this is, I found this photo on an old hard drive from 2009 in an folder entitled “Myspace”…….
….. I’ve lost my train of thought.
Now it’s 2013. And I got to shoot her again for the first time since my early days. It was pretty stoked!! I’ve wanted to shoot her for so long but she lives in Indiana and I live in Washington, DC. Somehow, the stars aligned and we were both vacationing in North Carolina at the same time in April and we were able to schedule a quick shoot together!
We decided to do two looks together. One sweet and happy and one dark and gothy. Since this photoshoot is from April, I’ve lost all of my Behind the Scenes photos, so I am shamelessly borrowing them from Britni’s instagram. Thanks honey bunny!
Two look sneak peek!
Knowing that we had limited time and two looks, I decided to shoot the black and white look first. I wanted to save the pink look for shooting the sunset because I knew the colors of the sunset would pop more against the pink than they would against the black. We started in an abandoned fraternity or sorority (??) house. I used to live near this abandoned building with the greek letters Delta Kappa and an owl painted inside it. In my extremely minimal google searching, I still don’t know (or really care) what it is/was. All it is now is a pretty cool photo spot.
On to the goods! First setup:
& a lighting test outtake of me falling.
Yes, those striped legs belong to yours truly.
For this next set, I wanted to try some seriously low key lighting. I love the way the deep shadows play into the feel of this image.
And the outtakes. Here is Britni making some adorably menacing faces in our lighting test.
Then we popped outside for a few more shots by this creepy lamp post in the backyard of this house.
All done here! Time to lighten the mood a little bit and change outfits! Planning shoots while in different states can be difficult. We were each picking pieces of our wardrobe for the shoot. After texting pictures back and forth we settled on something that looked like this.
Now that is some good e-planning!
Britni got changed and we headed out to our next location: a huge field of beautiful yellow flowers.
Once we were there, we had some time to kill while waiting for the sun to go down.
Well, may as well take some pictures!
La la la laaaaaaa… Just waiting for the sun…
While the lighting is pretty, it’s not the lighting I was looking for.
BAM! Perfect! Time to knock em dead!
OH yeah! I forgot to mention! These photos were featured in Deadly Dessert Magazine’s May issue that had a flower theme. Check out our spread! Woohoo!
Finally, we wrapped up a fun day of shooting together. If you’re interested in either of the wigs that Britni is wearing in the photos above, please check out Gothic Lolita Wigs. The black and white split is a discontinued wig, but you can see GLW‘s new longer splits HERE. The pink wig she is wearing is Gothic Lolita Wigs’ Rhapsody Collection in Rose, which can be found HERE. Her lashes are Born to Flirt from Dolluxe.
Thanks Britni! I am so happy we could make this day work and I can’t wait for our paths to cross again!!! I’ll dress you up like Hermione and take your photo. 😉

Oh no… I’ve neglected this blog again. I’m so bad!! Lately I’ve been playing on TUMBLR a lot and I kind of forgot about this sweetheart blog that goes back further than any blog I’ve ever had. So, I apologize for the lack of updates. Honestly, I can’t say I’ve been shooting a lot anyway. I was working on a traveling television show for two months so that’s where a lot of my time went. Yeah.. I’m going to blame that for the lack of updates…. yeah…
Oh no. My first entry back and I’ve already started to ramble! I am so out of practice! I guess that’s what happens when you update in the middle of the night. Let me grab your attention back with some photos of my gorgeous sister Genna. Quick back story about what this photo set means to me, and then, as promised, photos of Genna’s freakishly pretty face.
I grew up in beautiful North Carolina. When that autumn air hits in North Carolina, there is nothing quite like it. The leaves change all kinds of colors and… to me… it’s home. This year, I was traveling in the desert during the time when the leaves turn these magical colors. After filming when I came back to DC, I was so sad because I felt like I missed the season all together. All the trees were dead and cold. Then, as Genna and I were walking home from the grocery store one day, we spotted color. And lots of it. One tree had waited until that week to turn bright yellow and drop all of it’s glowing leaves into a pile on the street. Because of that tree, I got my autumn.
Thank you, tree.
& Genna, I guess. 😉
Hi guys!! Last weekend I had the privilege of shooting Mike and Johanna’s wedding on May 5, 2012. It was SUCH a beautiful day. They got married aboard the “N 2 Deep” yacht (Championship Yacht Charters) on Lake Norman, NC. We were picked up from Travis Pointe in Mooresville, NC which is an AMAZING venue in itself. That property is just incredible, and a great option if you are looking to get married in the LKN area. While I am based out of Washington, DC, I have a special attachment to LKN and love it more than any place in the world.
Let’s start with the dress and the details of the day. The colors of the wedding were Carolina blue and white. This combo is so gorgeous and one of my favorites!
Check out this amazing dress! I love how casual yet completely elegant and beautiful it was. Just wait til you see it on Johanna… wow!
I am obsessed with these GUESS shoes!
How adorable are these flower girl baskets?
These flowers are SO beautiful. The florist really knocked it out of the park. I also love the touch of the bedazzles in the bouquet and boutonniere and the carolina blue bow to tie the flowers to the theme.
Drum roll, please! Ceremony time! Here are a few highlights from the ceremony.
Everyone loves flower girls and ring bearers! These are some of the cutest I’ve seen!
Cue Johanna! Mike sees his bride for the first time. Aww! Always my favorite part!
What a radiant smile!
Adorable flower girl picking up petals during the ceremony.. hehehe…
You may kiss the bride!
I now present Johanna and Mike Bohn!
Meet the wedding party!
Now it is time for our bride and groom to relax and enjoy some drinks together and for the reception to begin!
Meet DJ Bob! We have worked other weddings together so it was great to be reunited with another vendor! Always cool to see familiar faces.
Okay… I am going to give you fair warning to brace yourself for this next set. It is potentially the cutest thing ever to hit this earth. Flower girls eating strawberries and cupcakes. See if you can handle it…
Hahaha.. Oh man. I love those two.
Check out this killer sunset from the front of the boat!
A beautiful first dance!
As I am writing this, I am laughing recalling this. This was definitely a fun bunch! And here are a few more dancing party people to top off the night.
And the clouds broke just enough for the Supermoon to light up the sky. An amazing end to an amazing night. Thanks so much to Mike and Johanna for letting me be a part of their special day. I really had a blast hanging with y’all! Best of luck to you both!
Lake Norman, NC
Hey y’all! I know I’ve been really neglecting this blog but guess what! Now I am on Thanksgiving vacation so time to update this sucker. As a lot of you know, I’ve been spending a ton of time in North Carolina filming my silly little part in Season 9 of One Tree Hill. My off days of filming meant on days of photoshoots! Yaaahh!
One of those days, I had the pleasure of shooting the staff photos for The Rockin Roller Salon & Boutique in Wilmington, North Carolina. These hair artists are by far the most badass group of people with the coolest vibe I’ve ever been around. If you are looking for some tough punks with tattoos and hair dye, check out the Rockin Roller off of Kerr Ave.
I told you they were awesome!
Wilmington, North Carolina
Hey hey hey!
Last week, Sam and her mom and sister drove out to Wilmington from Charlotte to meet me for some beachy Roxy-esque senior portraits. I figured there was NO WAY our schedules would match because I only had one free day in Wilmington.. Fortunately, the odds were in our favor, and everything lined up perfectly. I love the Roxy surf style, and I of course love spending time at Wrightsville Beach, so I was stoked to have this all work out, and to get to meet Sam and her awesome family.
Everyone keeps asking me how I got to shoot Emma Watson! Isn’t she so cute?
I love these! The wind was SOOOO out of control! I seriously had to plant myself in the sand so I didn’t blow over! I am little!!! Luckily, my camera weighs me down. ;D
Love this color palette!
Gotta rock the deer shirt for mom!
Quick family shot!
Aww! What an awesome day! I am so happy it all worked out!!! All the best to you, Sam, and good luck in college!!! It’s the best time of your life.. live it up! Unless you decide to be a photographer, because then the good times never stop. 😉
Senior Portrait Photography
Hey guys!! It’s been a while since I’ve put up a wedding post, so here ya go! While I was in Wilmington last week, my old buddy and photography sensei Chris Van Atta asked me if I’d like to be second shooter on a wedding he had coming up. OF COURSE, I said I’d love to! It was so so so great to be reunited with my buddy after almost a year of not shooting together. Isn’t that insane?! UGH. So that led me to meet Heather and Adam, a wonderfully spunky couple that goes by “Heat” and “Addy” — Love it!
So sweet! While Heather was getting ready at the Hilton Riverside, Adam was holding down the fort at the beautiful St. Thomas Preservation Hall. It was a cool time of day for lighting in the hall!
Here are some shots of the green/blue peacock theme!
Presenting the couple! Yay!
Awww what an awesome ceremony. So during the switch from wedding chapel to reception party room, we hit the streets of downtown Wilmington, NC for some fun family photos.
Vintage style kissin’ in the street. That’s where it’s at!
On our way back to the reception, we made a pit stop outside of Yosake, where Heather and Adam shared their first date. Awww. 🙂
The reception was a lot of fun too! I spent most of the night assisting Chris with lighting but here are a few quick shots of Heather and Adam’s first dance!
Well guys, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed Heather and Adam’s Wilmington wedding!
Until next time! xo
I met LaKeya a few months ago when I was working as the Production Designer on the independent feature film Turning Home. She was also working on the film. We talked about me being a photographer and viola! A few months later, here are LaKeya’s bright and shiny new headshots!
She wanted to incorporate her wrist and leg braces into her photos to give a sense of who she is. This is what we came up with!
