I am on a blogging ROLL lately! Damn! Today we are going back to April to visit a shoot with the lovely Britni McIntosh! You may have noticed, I am still digging through my older shoots that need to be blogged, and I am doing so in no particular order. I hope you like this trip down memory lane that I’ve been doing. I swear I will catch up one of these days….
Britni is the sweetest little thing. I have known her for ages. We grew up in the same crowd of friends and now we are all old and still friends. Woohoo! Britni was actually one of my very first guinea pigs EVER when I got my first camera (Nikon D60) a few years ago. While Britni kicked ass on that shoot, looking at my old work kind of burns my eyes out. I’m making these really small so no one can actually see them.
HAHAHA. If it gives you any indication of how old this is, I found this photo on an old hard drive from 2009 in an folder entitled “Myspace”…….
….. I’ve lost my train of thought.
Now it’s 2013. And I got to shoot her again for the first time since my early days. It was pretty stoked!! I’ve wanted to shoot her for so long but she lives in Indiana and I live in Washington, DC. Somehow, the stars aligned and we were both vacationing in North Carolina at the same time in April and we were able to schedule a quick shoot together!
We decided to do two looks together. One sweet and happy and one dark and gothy. Since this photoshoot is from April, I’ve lost all of my Behind the Scenes photos, so I am shamelessly borrowing them from Britni’s instagram. Thanks honey bunny!
Two look sneak peek!
Knowing that we had limited time and two looks, I decided to shoot the black and white look first. I wanted to save the pink look for shooting the sunset because I knew the colors of the sunset would pop more against the pink than they would against the black. We started in an abandoned fraternity or sorority (??) house. I used to live near this abandoned building with the greek letters Delta Kappa and an owl painted inside it. In my extremely minimal google searching, I still don’t know (or really care) what it is/was. All it is now is a pretty cool photo spot.
On to the goods! First setup:
& a lighting test outtake of me falling.
Yes, those striped legs belong to yours truly.
For this next set, I wanted to try some seriously low key lighting. I love the way the deep shadows play into the feel of this image.
And the outtakes. Here is Britni making some adorably menacing faces in our lighting test.
Then we popped outside for a few more shots by this creepy lamp post in the backyard of this house.
All done here! Time to lighten the mood a little bit and change outfits! Planning shoots while in different states can be difficult. We were each picking pieces of our wardrobe for the shoot. After texting pictures back and forth we settled on something that looked like this.
Now that is some good e-planning!
Britni got changed and we headed out to our next location: a huge field of beautiful yellow flowers.
Once we were there, we had some time to kill while waiting for the sun to go down.
Well, may as well take some pictures!
La la la laaaaaaa… Just waiting for the sun…
While the lighting is pretty, it’s not the lighting I was looking for.
BAM! Perfect! Time to knock em dead!
OH yeah! I forgot to mention! These photos were featured in Deadly Dessert Magazine’s May issue that had a flower theme. Check out our spread! Woohoo!
Finally, we wrapped up a fun day of shooting together. If you’re interested in either of the wigs that Britni is wearing in the photos above, please check out Gothic Lolita Wigs. The black and white split is a discontinued wig, but you can see GLW‘s new longer splits HERE. The pink wig she is wearing is Gothic Lolita Wigs’ Rhapsody Collection in Rose, which can be found HERE. Her lashes are Born to Flirt from Dolluxe.
Thanks Britni! I am so happy we could make this day work and I can’t wait for our paths to cross again!!! I’ll dress you up like Hermione and take your photo. 😉

Hi guys!! Last weekend I had the privilege of shooting Mike and Johanna’s wedding on May 5, 2012. It was SUCH a beautiful day. They got married aboard the “N 2 Deep” yacht (Championship Yacht Charters) on Lake Norman, NC. We were picked up from Travis Pointe in Mooresville, NC which is an AMAZING venue in itself. That property is just incredible, and a great option if you are looking to get married in the LKN area. While I am based out of Washington, DC, I have a special attachment to LKN and love it more than any place in the world.
Let’s start with the dress and the details of the day. The colors of the wedding were Carolina blue and white. This combo is so gorgeous and one of my favorites!
Check out this amazing dress! I love how casual yet completely elegant and beautiful it was. Just wait til you see it on Johanna… wow!
I am obsessed with these GUESS shoes!
How adorable are these flower girl baskets?
These flowers are SO beautiful. The florist really knocked it out of the park. I also love the touch of the bedazzles in the bouquet and boutonniere and the carolina blue bow to tie the flowers to the theme.
Drum roll, please! Ceremony time! Here are a few highlights from the ceremony.
Everyone loves flower girls and ring bearers! These are some of the cutest I’ve seen!
Cue Johanna! Mike sees his bride for the first time. Aww! Always my favorite part!
What a radiant smile!
Adorable flower girl picking up petals during the ceremony.. hehehe…
You may kiss the bride!
I now present Johanna and Mike Bohn!
Meet the wedding party!
Now it is time for our bride and groom to relax and enjoy some drinks together and for the reception to begin!
Meet DJ Bob! We have worked other weddings together so it was great to be reunited with another vendor! Always cool to see familiar faces.
Okay… I am going to give you fair warning to brace yourself for this next set. It is potentially the cutest thing ever to hit this earth. Flower girls eating strawberries and cupcakes. See if you can handle it…
Hahaha.. Oh man. I love those two.
Check out this killer sunset from the front of the boat!
A beautiful first dance!
As I am writing this, I am laughing recalling this. This was definitely a fun bunch! And here are a few more dancing party people to top off the night.
And the clouds broke just enough for the Supermoon to light up the sky. An amazing end to an amazing night. Thanks so much to Mike and Johanna for letting me be a part of their special day. I really had a blast hanging with y’all! Best of luck to you both!
Lake Norman, NC
Hey hey hey!
Last week, Sam and her mom and sister drove out to Wilmington from Charlotte to meet me for some beachy Roxy-esque senior portraits. I figured there was NO WAY our schedules would match because I only had one free day in Wilmington.. Fortunately, the odds were in our favor, and everything lined up perfectly. I love the Roxy surf style, and I of course love spending time at Wrightsville Beach, so I was stoked to have this all work out, and to get to meet Sam and her awesome family.
Everyone keeps asking me how I got to shoot Emma Watson! Isn’t she so cute?
I love these! The wind was SOOOO out of control! I seriously had to plant myself in the sand so I didn’t blow over! I am little!!! Luckily, my camera weighs me down. ;D
Love this color palette!
Gotta rock the deer shirt for mom!
Quick family shot!
Aww! What an awesome day! I am so happy it all worked out!!! All the best to you, Sam, and good luck in college!!! It’s the best time of your life.. live it up! Unless you decide to be a photographer, because then the good times never stop. 😉
Senior Portrait Photography
Hey guys!! It’s been a while since I’ve put up a wedding post, so here ya go! While I was in Wilmington last week, my old buddy and photography sensei Chris Van Atta asked me if I’d like to be second shooter on a wedding he had coming up. OF COURSE, I said I’d love to! It was so so so great to be reunited with my buddy after almost a year of not shooting together. Isn’t that insane?! UGH. So that led me to meet Heather and Adam, a wonderfully spunky couple that goes by “Heat” and “Addy” — Love it!
So sweet! While Heather was getting ready at the Hilton Riverside, Adam was holding down the fort at the beautiful St. Thomas Preservation Hall. It was a cool time of day for lighting in the hall!
Here are some shots of the green/blue peacock theme!
Presenting the couple! Yay!
Awww what an awesome ceremony. So during the switch from wedding chapel to reception party room, we hit the streets of downtown Wilmington, NC for some fun family photos.
Vintage style kissin’ in the street. That’s where it’s at!
On our way back to the reception, we made a pit stop outside of Yosake, where Heather and Adam shared their first date. Awww. 🙂
The reception was a lot of fun too! I spent most of the night assisting Chris with lighting but here are a few quick shots of Heather and Adam’s first dance!
Well guys, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed Heather and Adam’s Wilmington wedding!
Until next time! xo
Hey y’all! As you may know, I’ve spent the last week in Wilmington, NC to film my little role on One Tree Hill. So many great things have happened this week, one of which includes meeting the fabulously beautiful Abby Bolin. We hung out all day on set on Tuesday and decided that we needed to shoot some fun costume shots supplied by Halloween & More. So we narrowed it down to a hot pirate outfit and a fun little doll outfit!
Here is Ms. Abby Bolin as Darling Dollie!
I just adore these photos so much!! Oh my gosh. The location was just so perfect and has been screaming for me to shoot there for years. Just never had the perfect opportunity…. I think this theme was just about perfect for it. 🙂
Now, I give you Abby as a super sexy pirate!
Toooooo much fun!!!
Thank you sooo much to Abby Bolin and to Halloween & More. What a wonderful day! I hope next time I am in NC that I get to shoot with her again! Eeep!
Meet Frances and Joey. They are a seriously awesome couple with a lot of really great and fun ideas. Frances’ sister, Francheska, has been a great friend of mine for many years so it was really cool to finally be able to spend some time with Frances as well. Her fiance, Joey, is hysterical. I had a great time kicking it with these two a few weeks ago.
Their first idea was to do a boxing scene. Joey is a big fan of boxing… here is how it played out.
But he is a great sport 🙂
So off to the park for a picnic! Unfortunately, we got caught in a rainstorm so we took shelter in this covered area, which actually turned out to be really cool. The air was extremely muggy and foggy so while we were waiting for the storm to stop, we snapped off a few other pics that turned out to be some of my favorites from the day. I love the hazy effect at the top of the screen from the weather on my lens.
Teeny and Itsy. Hehe!
Finally! The storm stopped!
The number 1 image of the day… drum roll please!
Haaaahaha Teeny and Itsy! I love this one!
What a perfectly sweet couple. 🙂
Ok, here’s the first of my obnoxious posting spree.
Melissa Knight. I shot her over a year ago for some traditional family photos. Remember these? We had such a good time that we were eager to work together again. Melissa is just so photogenic and overall a great person to be around. I love to have her as a client and friend. 🙂
This is suuuuch a cute headshot. One of my favorites ever! She has such an adorable laugh and it makes for a great photo 🙂
See what I mean?
I had been wanting to shoot in this field for the entire year that I lived in Davidson. Melissa gave me the perfect opportunity to finally shoot it in my last few days in NC. I absolutely love how the photos turned out!
Here is Melissa as a ninja, hehe!
That location look familiar? My headshot was taken in the same place. I love that color!
Well, that’s it on Melissa. She is getting married next year in Kansas and I so hope to shoot her wedding!! Eeep!
I met LaKeya a few months ago when I was working as the Production Designer on the independent feature film Turning Home. She was also working on the film. We talked about me being a photographer and viola! A few months later, here are LaKeya’s bright and shiny new headshots!
She wanted to incorporate her wrist and leg braces into her photos to give a sense of who she is. This is what we came up with!
This is the gorgeous, hot mama Porsha. After bouncing around ideas for a few weeks, Porsha decided on a “Mother Nature” theme for her maternity session with me. When the day finally rolled around, I headed out to Raleigh, NC to meet this wonderful girl and her baby to be. I love working creative shoots like this one. It makes it so much more fun when I don’t have to do the traditional heart around the belly shot…
hahaha… Goofing around during lighting tests…. 🙂
Photographer: Alexa Poletti Photography
MUA: Donnie of IC Beauty
Model: Porsha P
And of course, a shot with Porsha and her sister, Ashante’, who came with us to the shoot.
I had such a blast with these two girls and I can’t wait to shoot Baby K’s newborn pictures when she finally graces us with her presence!
Goodnight friends! xx
Jessica and Joe! Jess is a good friend of mine and when she asked me to shoot her engagement session with Joe, I could not have been happier for an excuse to hang out! She’s such a sweetheart! And while Joe wasn’t a fan of getting his picture taken, I think deep down he had a little bit of fun 🙂
I love Joe’s expression in this one! I have a similar one where he is looking but this just looks so much sweeter and sincere… hehe…
The whole family! Too cute!!! Love all those little feets. Blaze is their pit who is the cutest thing in the world.
And that’s the story of Jess and Joe! They are getting married in Vegas next year… Best of luck you two!!
Andres and Jessica. Perfect.
I am soooo pleased to have been invited as a guest and as the photographer of Andres and Jessica’s wedding. I became friends with Andres and Jessica when I first met them for their engagement session (Quick reminder: Engagement Photos!) almost a year ago. SOMEHOW I managed to not know this sweet couple although they know EVERYONE I know, including my boyfriend. What the heck. I feel like I missed out on a great friendship all these years! But since we know all of the same peeps, it made this wedding one of the most fun to shoot. What a blast!!!
Well, lets get started! This is the story of Andres and Jessica’s wedding day… Here we go!
The venue was the Doubletree in Charlotte, NC. All of the folks here were so accommodating and helpful. Big ups to the wedding planner (someone please remind me of her name?) for this wedding.. She killed it! I know that wedding planning is no easy task, and I totally respect those who can handle the job!
The wedding is getting close!
HOW FREAKING AMAZING IS THIS DRESS??
I want one just like it for my wedding! Hey Jess, let me get that! Haha!
While Jess and I were waiting for the ceremony, we knocked out some quick bridal shots. Doesn’t she look gorgeous? Thanks Genna Poletti Makeup Artistry for the insanely stunning makeup. I know you made Jessica and the girls extremely happy.
Now it’s time to go! It’s time for the wedding!
After the wedding was the cocktail hour where everyone got to know each other and of course, get some cocktails!
Jessica and Andres got their own little private quiet time during the cocktail hour to be alone and spend a few minutes together as newlyweds! I love these!
And the fun begins!! Reception time! Try not to be overwhelmed by the amount of reception photos I am posting… I know it is excessive but I just loved this wedding so much and had a blast! I just want to share the fun with photo memories!
This is Jessica and Andres’ first dance as newlyweds… Too cute!
She got him!
Time to throw the bouquet and garter! That kid was so stoked… He cracked me up! I’m so glad he caught it haha!
This is my absolute favorite dance sequence I have ever shot. Isn’t it the most adorable thing you have ever ever ever seen? Oh my gosh. Can’t get over it. Hahaha… awww..
Finally a few more favorites from the rest of the night.
I had such a blast with Andres and Jessica on their wedding night. Thanks again to Mr. & Mrs. L for allowing me to be a part of it!!!
Meet Katy + Andrew.
Perfect couple, huh?
We had a killer vintage outdoors engagement session the other weekend when I was in Wilmington for Dede + Josh’s wedding. A weekend full of loooove. 😉 Seriously, could they be any more perfect?
We began in Wilmington, NC where we started by doing the downtown photo circle and then went to play in the sunflower fields. I love how these sunflower photos turned out.. Just like I imagined when we were planning this shoot!
Then we headed out to Ft. Fisher, NC! This beautiful location cannot be matched by anywhere in Eastern NC, in my opinion.
Katy + Andrew played off of each other so well. I love when couples interact naturally! They had so much fun and it just shines in their photos.. Look how cute!!!
They were having too much fun! Whoa!
Tug-of-war on the spine. He’s a chiropractor. Just for some backstory on that one haha.. Definitely the most interesting item I have ever had a couple bring to their session!!! How creative!
Then we headed over to the beach to knock out a vintage beach date. Love these, too! I just love this whole session basically. Wrapped up the day with a sweet silhouette….
I enjoyed working with Katy + Andrew so much.. I hope to work with them again soon and of course, I wish them the best of luck!!
Ft. Fisher, NC
Oooh, Ice Princess! Subreen and I have decided that we have been working too hard lately and wanted to do a creative shoot to relax and have some fun! We take breaks from work.. by working.. I know, we are obsessed! Can’t hate us for loving our jobs 🙂 So, after we found a night that worked for us, I went in search of a model to play with. That led us to miss Emma Blaney of High Point! She was so much fun! It’s hard to be around new people and be outgoing and chatty but she seemed like she has been friends with us forever. I love models like that!
Subreen started by curling her long, long hair. Then it was makeup time! Because of her super ultra glittery eyeshadow, Sub had Emma lie down on the floor to prevent a huge glitter mess! Haha! I came in the studio and was surprised to see them like that.. so goofy hahaha…
After a while of chit-chatting, video chatting with Genna!, and glittery madness, we got closer and closer to shooting. Time to prep my camera for the shoot.. I obviously wanted to use a cooler color temperature to portray this lovely “Ice Princess”.
Alright! We are ready! Hopped in the studio, set LR3 to tether the shoot so Subreen can watch (a new addition to my studio life, woohoo!), and off we go!
Model: Emma Blaney
MUA: Subreen Davis

Thanks again, Emma! You were such a delight!
Hey! I hate to do this to you- two studio shoots in a row! I know! But fortunately, they are very different!!
Do you guys remember Sierra? The swan from my animal series? Well, today I shot her senior portraits! So happy to work with her again.. she is such an incredibly talented model. It blows me away! I would say that she is easily one of the top 3 most photogenic people I think I have ever shot…. which makes my job super easy and fun!!!
We were going to shoot location but the NC tornadoes seemed to prevent that. No problem!
Again, Subreen came out to Davidson to work her makeup magic on Sierra. We started with a more “natural” look… but not too natural!
She is just so photogenic! I love the blues of her shirt and eyes on the gray background. They compliment each other so well! Next up was a super cute denim dress. We knocked out a few studio shots with the dress and then after peeking out the window, I saw my chance to take her outside. With her dress and her cowboy boots, I knew just where to go…
This one is my favorite!! It totally looks like it could be an album cover or something. Carrie Underwood much?
Next up: Rockstar outfit! Sequin shirt that looks so great on her.. tough to pull something like that off! Glam!
The next outfit was my favorite outfit! Sierra kicked into fashion model mode and nailed these photos.
Sierra is going to USC next year where she is gonna rule the school. She wanted some photos with her incredibly long lasting USC balloons and USC hoodie. I love these.. I could just feel how excited Sierra was at the thought of going off to school. I am happy for her and I know she is going to kick ass down in South Carolina!
OH! Bonus picture:
Senior Portrait Photography
Hey yall! I know I’ve been neglecting the blog (again).. I’ve just been busy! Sorry!!!
Okay, so here is the story about this photoshoot. I found this amazing hat at a consignment store in Florida like a year and a half ago for $15. There’s no way I couldn’t buy it, right? So I got it and have been hanging on to it all this time and have never shot it because I could never think of anyone who could rock it exactly how I wanted. Then I thought of Sheb. Friends from forever ago… She’s beautiful and classic and perfect.
So Subreen met Shelby & me at my house for a midnight photoshoot on Thursday night. Here ya go!
Enjoy the safety chair, grumpy faces, and eyelash boogers!
Final Product awaits!

I do plan to return to these when I am all caught up with my clients, heh… I love these though.. I can’t wait to revisit them! Here is a bonus picture of my two hunny bunnys:
Hey everyone!! Today was my DAY OFF from the movie! Decided that I needed to take a serious breather and go zen out shooting some yoga poses for my best friend, Nicole. Loving how they turned out!!!
She is so talented and strong! I am so proud of her!
Once it started getting a little bit darker, I decided I wanted to play with some flash. Time to light her up!! Again.. love the results! The colors turned out fantastic!
Now back to reality… work work work! Movie will be done at the end of this month and I’m fully booked until mid-May so you’ll have a lot of new stuff coming your way soon… xo!
Hey guys! So this post is a little different than my usual style. Some shots from the Lowbrow + Torch Runner show. No shots from the wild aftermath of police chases, searches, tow trucks, shooting suspects, or of Waka Flocka… but you can’t have everything.
Scott & Christina!
A mutual friend, Jim Graziano of snapWerx commercial photography, hooked me up with this perfect little couple! After a day of SNOW (????!) in Davidson, I feared that this engagement session would have to be rescheduled.. On the contrary, we could not have asked for more perfect weather! It was cold, but it is December, so what do you expect?
What charming smiles these two have!!!
^^ This series is too sweet!
We had a gorgeous sunset tonight.. Did anyone else catch it? Wow..! Romantic…
I give you.. the Brockman’s!! This fabulous lady was my SECOND grade teacher. Can you believe that?? These are her kids.. so grown up! I haven’t seen this bunch in nearly ten years… Incredible. It was so nice to see them and to hang out with these awesome gals. The girls were sooo fun and hysterical. They absolutely loved Genna’s puppy… there are pictures of her littered throughout my blog- I know you’ve seen the pup before.
How pretty are they??!
Laugh it up, goofballs! 🙂
Awww, OH MY GOD. So weird and awesome!! I love her so much!
So after this little mini shoot on Lake Norman, we all went out to eat. We decided on Brixx in Birkdale so the little pup could come along. Here is a shot of my mom and Mrs. Brockman! They are both a bunch of hotties!
Beautiful, beautiful day. It better not be another ten years before I see this crew again…!

Quick custom card update!
Here is the double-sided card for my snazzy little twin sis’s freelancing. You guys all know her by now.. She does makeup on probably 80% of my shoots.
If you haven’t seen her stuff by now, check her out.
For her card, she wanted one side to be her fun, creative style and one to appeal to the bridal market with a natural look.
Book her, book me. 😉

Yesterday, I shot some headshots for the wonderful DaNae West. She is a talented actress out of the Raleigh area with years of experience under her belt and a young fresh face. I am pleased to have worked with her.. she was on Sabrina!!?! Heck yeah, loved that show…
Ok, anyway.. DaNae drove all the way from Raleigh for her shoot. We were so bummed when we woke up that day that it was cold and RAINY. So when we got to our location in NoDa (Charlotte, NC), we took a quick rain delay and popped into the FABULOUS 24hr French bakery, Amelie’s. MMMMM… After some pastries and some hot lattes, off we went.
Yours truly knocking some shots out in front of a graffitied construction wall in NoDa. What a dreary day… >.<
She was really toughing it up in that tank top.. you can see from my fuzzy jacket how cold it was. What a trooper!
And the results! Here ya are!
Hey guys! Time for some wedding photos! Bring on the loveee!
This past weekend, I took a trip out to Little Switzerland, NC to shoot the wedding of M.E. & Dave. Their wedding was held at the Switzerland Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Their ceremony overlooked the mountains which was completely amazing.. I am so happy to have been a part of this wedding, and for getting to work with such a super cool, laid back couple like M.E. and Dave.
M.E. is a vintage designer in LA which is totalllyyyyyyy rockstar.
Please give her site a visit if you want to drool over some awesome vintage eye candy:
or her blog: www.meandblueinla.blogspot.com
So, on to the goods! Off we goooooo…..!
Okay, well maybe I should start at the beginning.
To establish the setting, let me describe driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway when the leaves are changing for those who have never done it. I don’t know if anyone read a few posts back when I posted about visiting Todd, NC, but it was a very similar feeling. The leaves are magical. The colors are so vivid and beautiful.. there is nothing like it. Driving through the falling leaves, twisting and turning through these curvy roads.. Windows down, air crisp..
A perfect drive to arrive and meet M.E. & Dave in Little Switzerland.
I was only with this couple for two hours on Saturday, but they were such accepting sweet people, I feel like I got to know them quite a bit! I had a blast hanging out with them while the fam was getting their makeup done.. A very spicy bunch! Because they didn’t have a wedding party, M.E. spent the minutes before the wedding with her mother and sister in their adorable cottage in Little Switzerland. And then the time came!! Here is a cute shot of the three of them walking over to the arch for the ceremony. They were so happy.. =)
And then the ceremony. It was so sweet.. Very casual which you all know is what I’m all about.
This rose was placed in the archway during the ceremony in memory of Dave’s mother. Very touching…
Yayyy!! Look how happy he is!!! Isn’t that cute? Aw!
And finally… they wanted their jumping photo.. so they got their jumping photo! I told you they were spicy, hehe!
My personal favorites here are “Levitating Grandpa” and “Mom with Child”… You can’t go wrong!
Until next time, xx.
Little Switzerland, NC
Hey everyone! Time for another post! These are the beautiful LaCarter children, who also happen to be my cousins. Good genes run in my family, ya know? They are sooo cute, ahh, I can’t get over it. Just want to give them little hugs forever. The shoot was for Laylee’s baby book- she is the youngest and also the only girl. She’s almost two and the sweeeeeetest little thing. I may be a little biased though…
I swear, their parents really have their hands full with this bunch!!!
